When mixing, use a plastic spoon, as metal can reduce the effectiveness of the clay. The amount you use will vary depending on the size of the area you are applying it to. Start with a small amount of clay and adjust based on your desired thickness. Apply your clay poultice to the affected area, allow it to dry and then wipe it off.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My favourite tea is Rosemary Gladstar’s Dandelion Mocha, which I’ve adapted slightly to fit my obsession of blending hot drinks. 3 TBSP roasted or dried dandelion root 3 cups of filtered water 1 TBSP cocoa powder 2 TBSP coconut milk (full fat) 1 TBSP maple syrup or honey 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder 1/2 tsp vanilla extract To make, decoct the dandelion root in the filtered water for 30 - 40 minutes. Once your decoction is ready and still warm, add 1 cup of the liquid. plus the remainder of the ingredients into blender. Blend on high and serve. When I’m making this to share with Jude, I omit the cocoa powder because it tends to make her pretty hyper.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Love for Lavender - Growing & harvesting</image:title>
<image:caption>You may be surprised to learn that there are over 39 different species of lavender! The most popular being, Lavandula angustifolia - English Lavender (native to the Mediterranean) and Lavandula dentata - French Lavender. English lavender is often called, Common Lavender and is usually what you see in pictures of those beautiful fields of rolling lavender. It is actually an extremely hardy plant and grows really well in gardens as long as its placed in well drained soil, and in a spot where it can soak up plenty of sunlight. English lavender will bloom late spring to early summer, so you’ll want to harvest as buds appear, but before the flowers bloom. This will ensure you’re capturing all of the beautiful medicinal qualities of the plant. When you harvest, remember to leave a few sets of leaves on each stem in order to promote regrowth. Once you’re finished your harvest, you can bunch your lavender and hang them it upside down to dry. It’s important to hang in a warm, dry spot, out of sunlight. We had the pleasure of peaking into the drying room at Sacred Mountain Lavender Farm, and it was rows upon rows of lovely lavender drying. I wanted to stay there all day.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Once your rose oil is ready, you’re all set to make your face cream. Add prepared rose oil, coconut oil and beeswax to a double boiler, or something you rigged up to resemble a double boiler. Gently melt the oils (without boiling) to blend together. Then, set aside and add your vitamin E, jojoba oil, and essential oils. Mixing to combine and leave the mixture to cool for several hours. Once cooled, add arrow root powder if you don’t like your end result to be too greasy and then use a mixer, or hand mixer to gently whip the mixture into a soft creamy texture.</image:caption>

<image:title>Recipes - DIY Healing Salve - Calendula Oil</image:title>
<image:caption>1 1/2 cups of dried calendula 3 cups olive oil Crush the dried calendula with a mortar and pestle, then add herbs and oil to a clean glass jar. Work out any air bubbles with a clean knife or spoon, seal the jar and mark it with the date. Store the jar in a sunny place and let sit for 3-6 weeks. If you’re short on time and don’t want to wait 3-6 weeks for your oil, you can make it using the stove top method. Simply set up a double boiler. Add your herbs and over with your oil. Once warm, turn the boiler down to low and let the oil and herbs cook for several hours</image:caption>

<image:caption>2 cups calendula oil 1/2 cup beeswax (use carnauba or jojoba wax for a vegan alternative) Pour your oil into a saucepan and slowly heat on low Slowly add your wax (I used beeswax) and stir until combined and melted You can do a quick spoon test and add more oil or wax if you need to adjust the consistency Quickly pour your salve into clean containers Seal with lids, label and store in the fridge. You don’t want your salve to melt. If stored properly in a cool location, salve can last from 1-3 years. This recipe fills 9 2oz tins.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Hey there, i’m kate</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m a digital marketer, turned studying Herbalist. An interesting turn of events, I know. Since struggling with IBS for most of my young adult years, I sought the help of a Naturopathic Doctor, and changed my diet to focus on whole foods to help heal my gut. This started my journey into living a holistic lifestyle and I have never looked backed. When my daughter Jude was born, I started looking more deeply into the best way to incorporate our holistic lifestyle into Jude’s routine. Spending time in our garden, and caring for our plants (house-plants included) is such a rewarding and therapeutic feeling, that I cannot wait to share with Jude. This blog is an ode to how we strive to incorporate herbs to maintain health & balance in our crazy, wonderful life.</image:caption>
